Happy Labor Day!

Red mtn

Today in the US, we are celebrating Labor Day. According to Wikipedia, Labor Day “constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country.”

Most of us who get labor day off use it as a day to relax, have a barbeque, or catch up on yard work or other household chores that may have fallen to the wayside while we’ve been working. We work very hard and sacrifice many of the things we enjoy to bring home a paycheck.

Lately, this is a topic I’ve considered at great length. Am I making the most efficient use of my time at work and home that will get me to my ultimate goal of financial independence? Can I really get to the point where everyday is Labor Day? Some days it seems I’m on the right path, and others seem like I’m spinning my wheels, which may not be a completely bad thing.

I encourage everyone to enjoy today. Spend time with your family if you can. Tomorrow, when you head back to work, take a second to see if you are working for an end goal or if you are also spinning your wheels with no end in sight.

I think in my case, I am going to do the following things.

  • Be thankful for having a job I don’t hate that allows me to earn decent money.
  • Refocus my efforts on paying off our remaining mortgage debt and finding ways to save or make more money.
  • Plan for the future. This weekend, I saw a sweet Airstream that was calling my name!

Happy Labor Day! What are your plans for today and tomorrow?

  1. We’ve been pondering seriously over that same question, Kim. Time is going by too quickly for us to waste it on things that don’t align with our goals! We had a weekend (and week – Rick was on vacation) full of fun and too much food. Back to reality this week. 🙂
