Time usually flies, but it seems like October was a long month. Maybe it was waiting for a renter or the buildup to Halloween. I think the next two months are going to fly. Then, holy guacamole, I will have sold my business and moved on to the next phase of my life. Wow, I have lots to do. I don’t know if I remember my goals, but let’s look back and see how I did.
1. Publish content at least four times a week. Pass I think I can stick to this schedule without much trouble. I’ll just make this a given, not a goal. New goal will be to do at least one guest post or blog swap a month. If anyone has been dying to have one from yours truly, this is your time to speak up.
2.Comment on at least five blogs each day, with three new ones per week.PASS. Some days are harder than others, and we will be traveling at Thanksgiving, but I think this should be easy to maintain.
3.Learn at least one new thing on WordPress per week.PASS. This week I added a contact box. I still have lots to learn.
4.Get more stuff on Facebook and Google Plus. FAIL. Did nothing. I think November will be my Facebook month. I have 6 pitiful likes. I am going to make it a goal to have 25 by the end of the month. If you want to help me achieve this goal, you can like me right now! I did surpass my goal of 200 Twitter followers. I’m up to 307. Let’s shoot for 400 next month.
5.A new goal for October was to break 200,000 on Alexa. Pass. I have some great blogger friends who visit and helped me achieve this goal. Right now, I am at 123,334. I am not sure where to go with this for now, 100,000? Does it really matter? With the giveaway I’m participating in (you can still enter) I’ve seen my RSS subscribers increase by over 100 to 143 as of this writing. I hope they don’t unsubscribe after the giveaway. Let’s set next month’s goal at getting to 160 subscribers, and I promise to put out good content to keep you reading. From October 8-November 8, I had 6,279 pageviews. I don’t know what a good number would be, but let’s just hope it grows for next month.
1.Write a budget and stick to it. Almost. I am working on one with Jacob at I Heart Budgets. I was going to submit anonymously, but decided to put it all our there, so be looking for it soon. I am still playing the grocery game on Canadian Budget Binder. For the first time ever, I was under my $350 grocery budget this month. I give all the credit to Mr. CBB. If you are struggling with something, there seems to always be a selfless blogger to help you out. I am going to be really ambitious this month and set the grocery, household, and dog food budget at $350. Previously, I only included the groceries. This may be setting myself up to fail, but I already did my cooking for the month, thanks to Mandy at Money Master Mom and her brilliant plan. You will be hearing more about that soon.
2.Add at least $2000 to our emergency/liquid savings account. Fail. We are trying to get our liquid savings back up to $15,000. Our fund got depleted with rental renovations.This one really isn’t my fault. I am blaming the government. My government contract always seems to get held up in October at the end of their fiscal year. I usually get paid about a week into a new month for the previous month’s work, but I have not been paid yet for September or October. Word is it should be coming any day now, and I should be able to put at least $4000 into savings as soon as I get paid. Do you think I can end my fiscal year in April and use that as an excuse to not pay taxes?
3.Limit fountain soda to five per week. Almost. I’m close, but think I went over. If I can’t remember, I guess it’s a fail. This is just going to be my personal indulgence.
4. New goal. Max out my IRA before the end of the year. With selling my business, I don’t think we will qualify for Roth’s this year, so I am on track to max my IRA at work. It is already set on auto pilot, so unless some major catastrophe occurs, this should happen.
5. New goal. Finish Christmas shopping in November and try to buy everything with rewards points. We have over $1000 in rewards cash back and gift cards, so this should be no problem. We should also be able to pay for a big chunk of our holiday travels with this money.
1.Eat five servings of fruits and vegetables at least five days per week. Pass. Much easier this month. Ongoing goal.
2.Eat out once, either sit down or take out. Pass. We did Subway once this month when I had a meeting. With my freezer meals, we shouldn’t feel the need to eat out this month except when we travel for Thanksgiving. I’m going to sell some stuff on ebay to pay for eating out while we’re out of town.
3.Let my daughter pick one fun thing to do on the weekends. Pass. We went swimming, to the park a few times, had a playdate, carved pumpkins, and went to the Halloween parade.
4. New goal for this month was to add one extra hour of exercise per week. Pass I worked out seven days a week, except for one day. I had to go from work to a reception for my friend, who just got a novel published, to parent/teacher conferences. I just didn’t have any more energy, but 30 out of 31 days is pretty good. I’ll try to continue this, and my new goal is to not gain any weight through Thanksgiving.
5.New goal. Read a book this month. I read two last month after a few month’s hiatus. I need to something other than online things with my free time. I can also read while working out, so that’s a double bonus.!
I did pretty good with everything except financial goals. I’m not sure what that says for my attempt at being a personal finance blogger. Maybe that you can learn from my shortcomings?
