Eyes on the Dollar 20/20 Roundup #35- Goodbye to an Old Friend

We'll miss you, Ralph
We’ll miss you, Ralph

I’m so grateful for the weekend. As I mentioned last week, I’m on a soft food diet because of my gum surgery last week. I’m so sick of soup that I might have ruined my love of it for life. Time will tell. I thought this might be a good way to lose some weight, but the ice cream I ate probably negated all the other things I was unable to chew.

On a very sad note, we had to say good-bye to our dear dog, Ralph, this week. He’s been with us for ten years, and while every dog I’ve had has been my favorite in some way, Ralph was just a good boy. Everyone who spent more then two minutes in his company loved him. My neighbor broke into tears when I told her the news. He was that special. While his body failed him, his spirit was there to the very end, and it was rewarding and heartbreaking to be there while he crossed over to the other side. While I try to remind myself every day how lucky I am, I can’t seem to shake a general feeling of melancholy that has been hanging around this week. Hopefully, it will get better over the next few days.

  1. Thanks for the mention about the mention, Kim, and many hugs to you as you say goodbye to Ralph. He’s up there now enjoying that giant dog park in the sky, having a wonderful time with my “boys”, Boomer and Duce.

  2. We lost our old dog suddenly last week. My younger dog is the saddest of us all. I went to the local animal shelter today to see if there was suitable match for our family. I cried when I held a puppy. It is just too soon.

The feeling of melancholy will remain for a while and the grieving process will be over when it is over.

    Sorry for your loss.

  3. I am so so so sorry about your dog 🙁 This makes me so sad! One of our dogs passed away a couple of years ago, and while we only had her a month before she passed away (we adopted her even though she had many medical disabilities), we were heart broken. I can’t imagine how I’ll feel when one of our dogs passes because we’ve had them since we were much younger.

Thanks for the mention! I feel like you’re always saying such nice things about me! It’s probably all getting to my head now haha

  4. Sorry about Ralph Kim. Your liquid diet made me think about those “blend anything” videos, where they were blending ipods and other weird stuff. Hope you can go back to solids soon, in the meanwhile ice cream and blended cookies sound like a good lunch!

    1. He did come a long way from being a stray dog on the reservation. He knew he was lucky. I think that’s why he was such a good dog.
