Getting adequate sleep can make you feel good, but it is important for reasons that go beyond taking those bags under your eyes away or making you feel better. Getting enough sleep is actually a critical element for a lifestyle that is healthy and can have great benefits to things like your emotional well-being, your weight, heart, and more.


Believe it or not, your brain is actually quite busy when you sleep. While you are sleeping, your brain helps to strengthen your memories, and can even practice things that you learned during the day while you weren’t sleeping. This process is known as consolidation.

When you try to learn new activities, either physical or mental, you can learn it up to a point with practice alone. When you sleep though, something happens that makes you remember it better. This can actually quite easily lead to them having significant impairment of how they function at school. This is even seen in college students. When you are trying to meet a specific deadline, you might be willing to sacrifice a bit of your sleep, but for it to impair learning, this sleep deprivation is severe and recurring.

The bottom line is that we need sleep to be as healthy as we can be.
