The Smart Way to Spend More Quality Time with Your Family

spending time with family

Holding down a job, keeping your home tidy, and taking care of children can take up a lot of time, and it doesn’t help that a lot of people feel like they don’t have enough vacation or free time.  In fact, a recent study found that almost half of the employees surveyed felt they didn’t have enough time to enjoy their personal lives. There’s so much you could be doing with your family, but you’re missing out on it because you’re too busy.  You have to make the most out of the time that you have, and if you value your free time, there are some things you can do to have a little more time, while saving money, with the people that matter to you the most.

Be Flexible with Your Schedule

Your day can be unpredictable, work problems and last minute situations at home can take up a lot of time.  It may feel like it’s impossible to keep a schedule, but if you want to have more time with your family, everybody should be on some kind of schedule.  You don’t have to plan out everything by the minute; you just have to set aside some time to do certain things.  Instead of saying that everybody has to be home at 6pm on the dot to eat, say that anytime from 6pm to 7:30pm will be dinner time, and keep in touch via text throughout the day to figure out when the best time to sit down for dinner will be. If you try to work with everybody’s schedule in mind, it’ll be a lot easier to see your loved ones consistently and remaining flexible will help you to plan family dinner accordingly, avoiding waste or having to reheat the entire meal if someone runs late.

Plan Family Fun Time Around Free City Activities

If you want to truly enjoy your family time and get the chance to explore where you live, you need to keep up with the events in your city.  There’s nothing wrong with a fun night in with the family, but when you live in or close to a big city, you and your family could be experiencing so much more together. A simple search online based on the city where you live will yield various results and activities that you and your family can enjoy. Be sure to check out your city’s official tourism website for the latest and most often, free events that are open to the public. Take a look at the beginning of each month to see what’s going on, and try to plan a nice family outing around the free activities. Throw in a nice dinner at the end of the day, and you will have a complete day of activities planned!

Recognize When It’s Time to Ask for Help

You really want to be able to spend more time with your kids and spouse, but you feel like you’re constantly cleaning and picking up after your family.  You need some time to prep meals or catch up on a work project, but someone needs to watch the kids so that you can get the work done.  A little extra assistance can go a long way, and a lot of your most time consuming tasks could be taken care of by a professional. So many people have discovered that using an affordable maid service for just a few hours a week has allowed them more time to spend with their family.  A baby sitter or a family member could watch your kids for an hour so that you can get work done, and have more free time later to see your family.

Remember, a happy well-rested parent means a child that is happy and well taken care of! Don’t be afraid to ask for help when needed.
