The first ever Wienerschnitzel branch was opened by one of Taco Bell employee, John Galardi. John had been serving in Taco Bell for a long time when one day he thought about starting his own food chain. John thought about opening a food-chain whose specialty would be hot-dogs. Who would have kn0wn that this idea will be called “World’s Largest Hot Dog Chain” by every single person in the United States?
John came to California when he was 19 to land a job in Glen Bell that later was named as Taco Bell. The company hired John on a part-time basis for 50-cents an hour at a store called Taco-Tia. John was working with so much passion and efficiency that Taco Bell proposed a partnership to him for running the store. Things were going great for Taco Bell and John. John was so successful that Taco Bell once borrowed $6,000 from him and was not able to pay back the loan. John was handling the business well so he thought about buying the whole place and start out something new. John proposed Taco Bell to sell the store for $12,000 so he can work alone and transform the business into something new. John collected money from parents, friends and some relatives to lay off all the employees from the store and buy the place.
Years passed and things were going absolutely perfect for John, a couple of years later a man wanted to recruit John for starting out his own restaurant. He asked John to start a restaurant on Pacific Coast Highway in Wilmington just next to one of Taco Bell’s stores. Bell was in John’s contact for the whole time, he asked John to take this opportunity and sell another kind of food. John was looking forward to opening this restaurant but wasn’t sure of the menu. As told by John’s wife, he decided to sell hot dogs when looking through a cookbook as no one was selling it.
